Haryana Government Can’t Announce New Development Projects Due to Model Code of Conduct: Chief Electoral Officer

The announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has led to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct in Haryana. Consequently, the state government cannot declare new development projects. To address complaints of MCC violations, the Election Commission has introduced the C-Vigil app, allowing citizens to report through videos and audio recordings, ensuring swift action within 100 minutes upon receipt. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal highlighted the voter turnout potential, with over 199 million voters eligible to cast their votes. He emphasized the recruitment of election staff and announced the election schedule, with polling slated for April 26 and results expected to be declared by June 6. The elections will be conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), with additional Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines available at all polling stations. Additionally, strict spending limits for candidates and transparency in election expenditure have been emphasized. The deployment of central paramilitary forces and state police personnel aims to ensure a secure and fair electoral process in Haryana.
