Haryana Seizes Over Rs 76 Crore in Illegal Liquor, Cash, and Narcotics Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Chandigarh, May 28 – Haryana’s enforcement agencies have ramped up their efforts ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, seizing a substantial amount of illegal liquor, cash, and narcotics. As of May 28, the total value of these seized items has reached an impressive Rs 76.74 crore, far surpassing the Rs 18.36 crore seized during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

According to Mr. Affection Agarwal, the state’s police, Income Tax Department, Excise and Taxation Department, and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have been actively involved in these operations. To date, the police have seized Rs 724.80 lakh in cash, the Income Tax Department Rs 938.69 lakh, and the DRI Rs 278 lakh. Other agencies have also contributed to these seizures, significantly impacting the illegal activities in the state.

Mr. Agarwal further detailed that a total of Rs 13.50 crore worth of illegal liquor, amounting to over 4.10 lakh liters, has been confiscated. Specifically, the police have seized 300,833 liters valued at Rs 951.33 lakh, and the Excise Department has confiscated 1,09,583 liters valued at Rs 409 lakh.

The crackdown on narcotics has been equally intense, with agencies seizing drugs worth Rs 14.08 crore. The police have been particularly effective, confiscating narcotics valued at Rs 13.99 crore. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has also seized 2 kilograms of narcotics worth Rs 4 lakh. Additionally, authorities have confiscated precious items valued at Rs 26.12 crore and other valuables worth Rs 3.49 crore.

Mr. Agarwal emphasized the continuous efforts by various agencies to curb illegal activities in the run-up to the elections. He highlighted the comprehensive approach involving multiple departments working in unison to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. The significant increase in the value of seized items compared to the last election underscores the enhanced vigilance and dedication of Haryana’s enforcement agencies.

This crackdown is a crucial step in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that illegal activities do not influence the outcome.
