Haryana to Strengthen Public Transport with Addition of 650 New Buses to Roadways Fleet
Chandigarh, December 6:
In a major push to improve public transport infrastructure, Haryana Roadways is set to expand its fleet with 650 new buses, including 150 air-conditioned and 500 non-air-conditioned buses. The acquisition, approved at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, will involve an investment of over ₹300 crore.
High-Powered Purchase Committees Approve Contracts Worth ₹1,329 Crore
The High-Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC), Departmental High-Powered Purchase Committee (DHPPC), and High-Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC) collectively approved contracts and procurements totaling ₹1,329 crore during the meeting. Notably, negotiations with bidders resulted in savings of over ₹38 crore.
The meeting saw the presence of Cabinet Ministers Anil Vij, Mahipal Dhanda, Vipul Goel, Shyam Singh Rana, Ranbir Gangwa, and Shruti Choudhary.
ICT Labs to Be Installed in 801 Government Schools
Under the PM SHRI Scheme and Samagra Shiksha Scheme, approval was granted for the installation of four types of ICT labs in 801 government schools across the state. This initiative will cost approximately ₹50 crore. Additionally, ₹33 crore has been earmarked for the procurement of educational learning materials for primary school students (Classes 1 to 5) under the NIPUN Bharat Program.
Water Supply and Irrigation Projects Approved
Key water supply projects approved include:
- Mahendragarh City: Renovation and expansion of waterworks and boosting stations at a cost of ₹15.80 crore.
- Karnal District: Development of water supply facilities for villages Ballah, Fafdadna, Goli, and Manpura, along with sewage treatment facilities in Ballah, costing ₹19.50 crore.
- Bawal Town: Laying of pipelines, construction of water tanks, and boosting stations for ₹17.15 crore.
- Jagadhri-Yamunanagar: Construction of a 19.50 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant for industrial waste at ₹93 crore.
- Sirsa District: Approval for the construction of Sultanpuria Kharif Channel 2, costing ₹14 crore, to provide irrigation water to several villages.
Infrastructure Development Projects Cleared
Infrastructure development projects included:
- Special repair works on master roads in Greater Faridabad (Sectors 75 to 89) at an estimated cost of ₹29 crore.
- Development of basic amenities in Karnal’s Sector-37 (₹36 crore) and in IMT Rohtak, Sector-33-B, Phase II (₹16 crore).
Procurement for Police and Power Departments
The police department received approval for ₹3.92 crore to procure advanced equipment, including two genetic analyzers/automated DNA sequencers and other devices for FSL labs in Madhuban, Karnal, and Gurugram. Additionally, 430 computer systems will be purchased for 14 CCTNS training labs.
For the power sector, Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) was authorized to purchase two sets of Emergency Restoration Systems (ERS) and four sets of hotline equipment for live-line maintenance of EHV transmission lines and substations. Various transformers will also be procured.

The meeting was attended by Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Rajesh Khullar; Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department, Dr. Sumita Misra; Additional Chief Secretary of Finance, Anurag Rastogi; and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Arun Kumar Gupta, along with other departmental secretaries.
