Health Department Launches Active Case Finding Campaign for Tuberculosis in Chandigarh

In a proactive move towards a Tuberculosis (TB) Free Chandigarh, the Health Department of the Chandigarh Administration has initiated a significant step. Dr. Varinder Nagpal, Acting Director of Health Services, Chandigarh Administration, accompanied by senior officers, flagged off teams for Active Case Finding (ACF) for Tuberculosis.

Dr. Nagpal emphasized that these dedicated teams will conduct comprehensive searches to identify presumptive TB cases within the Rehabilitation Colony, Dhanas. Through meticulous house-to-house surveys, symptomatic individuals will be identified, and free on-the-spot sputum samples will be collected for TB testing. Additionally, free hand-holding X-ray services will be provided at the Health and Wellness Centre in the Rehabilitation Colony, Dhanas, throughout the duration of the ACF survey.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, State TB Officer, highlighted that individuals diagnosed as positive cases will promptly receive free treatment after undergoing necessary tests. This strategic approach aims to facilitate early diagnosis, ultimately interrupting the transmission chain of the infection.

Commencing on January 31, 2024, the ACF survey is scheduled to run for fifteen days, covering the entire Rehabilitation Colony in Dhanas. Twenty teams, comprising 40 trained volunteers, will conduct surveys across the area, targeting the entire population. Notable attendees at the launch included Dr. Charru Singla, NO-NHM, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, State TB Officer, and Dr. Vandana Mohan, DFWO.
