Heavy Monsoon Rains Cause Rs. 196 Crore Loss to Jal Shakti Vibhag: Mukesh Agnihotri

Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods have resulted in an additional loss of approximately Rs. 44 crore, impacting 352 water supply schemes, according to Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri during a review meeting with department officers. The total loss during the current monsoon season stands at Rs. 196 crore, affecting 2421 schemes.

Significant damage occurred in Kullu and Shimla districts, with the Kurpan scheme in Shimla’s Matiyana area suffering a loss of Rs. 10 crore as its pump house, machinery, and pipes were washed away. The Rampur water supply scheme incurred an additional loss of Rs. 8 crore.

In response, some schemes have been temporarily closed as a precaution. Efforts are being made to prevent siltation and ensure an uninterrupted water supply to the public. Out of the 2421 affected schemes, 1438 have been temporarily restored, and work is ongoing to restore the remaining ones on a war footing.

All officers’ and employees’ leaves have been canceled until further notice, and they have been directed to remain vigilant during the monsoon rains.
