Himachal CM Extends Relief to Disaster-Hit Areas, Promises Development

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a much-needed relief package for the regions of Samej and Bagi bridge in Rampur district, which were severely affected by the recent monsoon-induced disasters. The announcement came during the closing ceremony of the prestigious International Lavi Fair in Rampur.

Key Points of the Relief Package:

  • Enhanced Compensation: Families who have lost their homes entirely will now receive a substantial sum of Rs. 7 lakh, a significant increase from the previous amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh.
  • Support for Partially Damaged Homes: Those with partially damaged homes will be provided with a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh.
  • Assistance for Missing Persons: The families of individuals who went missing during the disasters will receive death certificates and financial aid from the state government.

Government’s Commitment to Rehabilitation and Development:

The Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens. He highlighted the successful rehabilitation of 23,000 affected families last year, despite the challenges posed by the devastating floods and landslides.

Sukhu also took the opportunity to criticize the previous BJP government for misusing public funds. He assured the public that the current government is dedicated to eradicating corruption and utilizing resources for the benefit of the most vulnerable sections of society.

To bolster the state’s education and healthcare sectors, the government has initiated the appointment of 3,000 teachers and is in the process of recruiting additional healthcare professionals to reduce the burden on existing staff. Additionally, the reinstatement of the old pension scheme for government employees and the introduction of monthly pensions for eligible women demonstrate the government’s commitment to social security.

In a significant move to safeguard the state’s energy security, the government has issued an ultimatum to Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) to comply with the state’s energy policy. Failure to do so could result in the state government taking over crucial hydroelectric projects.

Lavi Fair and Cultural Heritage:

The Chief Minister extended his greetings to the attendees of the Lavi Fair, a centuries-old cultural event. He emphasized the importance of preserving such traditions and pledged to support cultural initiatives.

The government’s focus on equitable development is evident in the various development projects inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for during the event. These projects include water supply schemes, sewerage systems, and educational institutions.

By taking decisive action to address the immediate needs of the disaster-affected population and implementing long-term development strategies, the Himachal Pradesh government is striving to build a resilient and prosperous state.
