Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Directs Prompt Creation of Solar Energy Scheme Guidelines
In a recent meeting with the Energy Department, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the urgent need to develop guidelines for the state’s solar energy initiative. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a 40% subsidy to young Himachalis establishing solar projects ranging from 100 KW to 1 MW. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of this scheme to foster self-employment opportunities for the state’s youth and contribute to the government’s goal of transforming Himachal Pradesh into a green energy state by March 31, 2026.
The state government has guaranteed a 25-year electricity purchase agreement from the units established under this scheme, ensuring a steady income source for the youth. Additionally, the 40% subsidy offered by the government aims to incentivize and encourage young entrepreneurs to venture into solar energy production.
Highlighting the positive impact of this proactive approach, Chief Minister Sukhu stated, “The state government’s emphasis on renewable energy will not only bolster environmental protection efforts but also generate growth and employment opportunities, positioning Himachal Pradesh as a frontrunner in clean energy adoption nationwide.”
With a target of producing 500 MW of solar energy in the current year (2023-24), the state government is fully committed to promoting the utilization of solar energy. Emphasizing the government’s dedication to environmental conservation, Chief Minister Sukhu pointed out the various initiatives being undertaken in this regard, including the presentation of the maiden budget as the Green Budget.
Acknowledging the increasing demand for electricity due to the promotion of e-vehicles in the state, Chief Minister Sukhu underscored the significance of solar energy production in achieving the state’s green energy goals and meeting its future energy requirements.
A follow-up meeting with the Energy Department has been scheduled for November 21st to further discuss the implementation of the solar energy scheme and other renewable energy initiatives.
