Himachal Pradesh CM Announces Relief Measures for Families Affected by Disastrous Monsoon Season
During the 2023 monsoon season, Himachal Pradesh faced one of its worst natural disasters due to unprecedented rainfall, leading to flash floods and landslides. Despite the immense challenge, the people of Himachal Pradesh displayed remarkable resilience and began rebuilding their lives. The state government, committed to supporting the affected families, announced a special relief package of Rs. 4,500 crore despite limited financial resources, as no aid was received from the central government.
This press release highlights the key measures implemented by the Himachal Pradesh government under the special relief package:
Increased Financial Assistance:
The government significantly increased financial aid for various categories, including housing, livestock, and livelihood support. This marks a historic step, providing much-needed relief to disaster-affected families.
- Housing:
- Completely damaged houses: Rs. 1.30 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh
- Partially damaged kutcha house: Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 1 lakh
- Livelihood Support:
- Loss of shop or dhaba: Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1 lakh
- Loss of cow sheds: Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 50,000
Additional Support Measures:
- Rental Assistance: Rs. 5,000 per month (rural) and Rs. 10,000 per month (urban) for temporary accommodation.
- Free Ration and Utilities: Free ration, LPG gas connection, electricity, and water connection provided to affected families.
- Discounted Cement: Cement bags offered at government rates to support rebuilding efforts.
A Comprehensive Approach to Disaster Relief:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that this comprehensive package signifies a landmark effort by the state government to support disaster relief. These robust measures aim to alleviate the hardships faced by families and facilitate their swift recovery.
Over 22,000 Families Benefitting:
As of today, over 22,000 disaster-affected families have received financial assistance under the relief package. This includes:
- 2,968 families receiving the first installment of Rs. 3 lakh for completely damaged houses.
- Over 10,000 families receiving aid for repairing partially damaged houses.
- 3,648 beneficiaries receiving assistance for repairing damaged cow sheds.
- Around 1,800 families receiving compensation for livestock loss.
- 2,600 farmers receiving support for crop loss and damaged cultivable land.
- 507 shop and dhaba owners receiving compensation for business losses.
