Himachal Pradesh Drives Towards a Greener Future with Inaugural Green Corridor and EV Charging Stations

Himachal Pradesh has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable future with the operationalization of its Kiratpur-Bilaspur-Mandi-Kullu-Manali-Keylong green corridor. This landmark achievement marks the first of six green corridors planned by the state government, aiming to boost the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Charging Up for Sustainability:

The green corridor boasts seven strategically located Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) at Ghandal, Daseran near Darlaghat, Nauni near Bilaspur, Jadol, Ner Chowk Bye Pass, Kullu Opposite Bhutnath Temple Bridge, and Keylong. These stations, established by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, will provide much-needed charging infrastructure for EV owners traveling between Shimla and Keylong, encouraging them to choose a more eco-friendly mode of transport.

A Vision for a Greener Himachal:

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced this ambitious initiative in his maiden budget speech, highlighting the government’s commitment to transforming Himachal Pradesh into a Green Energy State by March 31, 2026. The six green corridors encompass key routes across the state, connecting major towns and cities. With efforts underway to make the remaining five corridors operational soon, Himachal Pradesh is paving the way for a future powered by clean energy.

Investing in the Future:

The Transport Department is actively working towards expanding the EV charging network, inviting tenders for the establishment of 45 additional EV charging stations along the remaining green corridors. Recognizing the importance of accessibility, the state government is offering a 50% subsidy to private operators for setting up these stations. Additionally, the government is actively identifying suitable locations to ensure convenient charging access for EV owners.

Beyond the Corridors:

The commitment to sustainability extends beyond the green corridors. The Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Yojna provides a 50% subsidy for the purchase of e-taxis, e-buses, and e-trucks. Furthermore, a ban on the procurement of diesel/petrol vehicles in the public sector has been implemented from this year, showcasing the government’s unwavering dedication to promoting clean transportation solutions.

Leading the Way in Green Energy:

Himachal Pradesh’s green corridor initiative is a testament to its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development. By actively promoting electric vehicles and investing in clean energy infrastructure, the state is setting an exemplary precedent for other regions to follow. This initiative not only benefits the environment but also positions Himachal Pradesh as a leader in the green energy sector, attracting eco-conscious tourists and investors.

Looking Ahead:

As Himachal Pradesh continues to expand its green corridor network and implement various sustainable practices, the state serves as a beacon of hope for a cleaner and healthier future. By embracing clean energy and prioritizing environmental well-being, Himachal Pradesh is paving the way for a more sustainable future for generations to come.
