Himachal Pradesh Government Focuses on Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure and Services
Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil reviewed the healthcare schemes in Himachal Pradesh, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare services to the people of the state. He emphasized that the health sector is one of the most crucial areas for the state government, which is prioritizing its development.
Dr. Shandil shared that as part of the ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery, the government is upgrading health institutes across all 68 assembly constituencies in the state into ‘Adarsh Swasthya Sansthan’ (Model Health Institutions). Each of these upgraded institutions will have six specialist doctors assigned, with 49 institutions already being provided with 4 to 6 specialists. The government plans to gradually equip all such institutions with necessary specialist doctors, paramedical staff, and state-of-the-art healthcare infrastructure.
Dr. Shandil instructed the officers to ensure that the ongoing medical institution construction projects across the state are completed in a timely manner, prioritizing those that are 70% complete. This is part of the state’s broader strategy to bolster healthcare capacity and ensure that these institutions are fully functional.
The minister also highlighted the state’s efforts to ensure an adequate number of doctors and paramedical staff in all health institutions. He emphasized that the government is committed to providing world-class medical equipment and modern machinery to offer the best possible treatment to patients. Additionally, Dr. Shandil underlined the importance of strengthening healthcare services in rural areas, particularly focusing on improving dental services and oral hygiene, which he described as critical aspects of overall healthcare.
In line with these efforts, the state government has already begun the process of filling thousands of vacant positions in the health sector, including specialists, resident doctors, nurses, and other paramedical staff. Beyond new recruitments, the health and family welfare department will also rationalize the deployment of paramedical staff to ensure that adequate personnel are available in all medical institutions, particularly those in remote and rural areas.
Dr. Shandil further instructed officers to conduct regular inspections of health institutions and the ongoing infrastructure development projects to ensure that progress remains on track. The review meeting was attended by Mission Director NHM Priyanka Verma, Deputy Mission Director NHM Dr. Gopal Beri, and other key officials.
