Himachal Pradesh Prioritizes Welfare of Underprivileged with New Initiatives
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a slew of initiatives aimed at uplifting the underprivileged sections of society, particularly focusing on women and children. These measures highlight the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring their well-being and creating a brighter future for them.
Expanding Social Security Pension Scheme: Recognizing the financial struggles faced by vulnerable groups, the government plans to add 40,000 new beneficiaries to the social security pension scheme in the next fiscal year. This will translate to an additional expenditure of Rs. 70 crore, significantly expanding the program’s reach and providing much-needed financial support to a wider population.
“Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Shiksha Yojana” for Widows’ Children: A novel program named “Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Shiksha Yojana” will be launched to support the higher education aspirations of children of widows. This scheme will cover expenses for various academic pursuits, including medical, engineering, NITs, IIMs, IITs, nursing, graduation, and post-graduation, as long as the family’s annual income falls below Rs. 1 lakh. This initiative aims to bridge the financial gap and empower these children to pursue their educational goals without constraints.
Financial Assistance and Healthcare Support: The government will further demonstrate its commitment by depositing Rs. 1,000 per month into recurring deposit accounts of eligible children until they reach 18 years of age. Additionally, the annual health insurance premium for eligible women will be covered, ensuring their access to essential healthcare services. These measures provide a comprehensive support system, addressing both financial and healthcare needs.
Housing and Education for Persons with Disabilities: Recognizing the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, the government plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for their education in Solan district. This center will offer comprehensive facilities like playgrounds, residential accommodations, and educational opportunities until they reach 27 years of age. Additionally, financial assistance for rented accommodation will be provided to those without a permanent residence, ensuring their basic needs are met.
These initiatives by the Himachal Pradesh government demonstrate a commendable focus on social welfare and inclusive development. By addressing the specific needs of various underprivileged groups, the government is paving the way for a more equitable and prosperous society.
