Himachal Pradesh to Reduce Special Road Tax on Tourists and Other Commercial Vehicles

Shimla, October 19, 2023: The Himachal Pradesh government has announced that it will reduce the Special Road Tax (SRT) and other taxes levied on tourist buses, tempo travelers, and commercial tourist vehicles. The decision was taken following a meeting between Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and a delegation of the Shimla Hotel and Tourism Stakeholders Association.

The association had raised concerns about the impact of the new tax on tourism in the state. The Chief Minister assured them that the government would take steps to reduce the burden on the tourism industry.

In addition to reducing the SRT, the government will also set up a tourist helpline to be linked with the existing 1100 helpline number. The helpline will provide assistance to tourists in case of any problems.

The government is also considering making a policy for homestays in the state. This will provide tourists with more affordable accommodation options.

The Chief Minister said that the government is committed to promoting tourism in the state. He urged those associated with the tourism industry to participate in making Himachal Pradesh a green and clean state.
