Theog, Himachal Pradesh (26 December 2023): A milestone for the state’s fruit industry, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the newly established Parala Fruit Processing Plant in Theog, Shimla district. Built at a staggering cost of Rs 100.42 crore, the plant promises to revolutionize the region’s horticulture sector and empower local farmers.

Boosting Farmer Income and Production:

At the inauguration ceremony, CM Sukhu emphasized the plant’s potential to improve farmers’ lives. He assured fair prices for produce through the processing of wine, vinegar, and juice. He further highlighted the plant’s ability to expedite production processes, ensuring timely delivery and minimizing losses.

Addressing Infrastructure Damage and Fair Pricing:

Acknowledging the recent heavy rain damage to apple belt link roads, Sukhu lauded the government’s swift restoration efforts. He also underscored the crucial hike in apple support price (Rs 1.50 per kg) and the implementation of the universal carton system to combat unfair pricing practices.

Eight Grading/Packing Houses and CA/Cold Stores:

Demonstrating the government’s commitment to farmer convenience, Sukhu announced the establishment of eight grading/packing houses and Controlled Atmosphere (CA) and Cold Stores across various locations. These facilities aim to streamline processes and reduce post-harvest losses.

International Marketing Prospects and HPMC Initiatives:

Sukhu revealed his successful Dubai visit, where he attracted investor interest in marketing Himachal Pradesh’s horticulture products. He emphasized the government’s dedication to protecting farmers from exploitation and providing financial benefits through initiatives like HPMC’s low-cost gardening supplies.

Disaster Relief and Swift Action:

CM Sukhu acknowledged the swift response to the recent disaster, ensuring temporary restoration of vital services within 48 hours and safe evacuation of over 70,000 tourists. He also highlighted the Rs 4500 crore Special Relief Package for affected families.

Horticulture Sector Takes Center Stage:

Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi reiterated the government’s focus on this crucial sector, highlighting the Parala plant’s role in generating numerous processed products and contributing to the state’s economy. Education Minister Rohit Thakur echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the Congress party’s historical support for farmers and horticulturists.

Local MLA and Dignitaries Express Optimism:

Local MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore praised the government’s farmer-centric decisions and promised further initiatives in the future. Priority in employing local residents at the plant was also addressed. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, along with other dignitaries, graced the inauguration ceremony.
