Himachali Diaspora in Canada Celebrates Dussehra, CM Sukhvinder Sukhu Encourages Support for Green Energy Initiatives

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended warm congratulations to the Himachali community in Canada for the successful organization of the second annual Dussehra celebrations at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. In a special video message, CM Sukhu lauded the efforts of the Himachali Pravasi Global Association for preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage abroad, calling the Himachali Diaspora “true Brand Ambassadors of the state.”

The event brought together over 30 regional associations and numerous dignitaries from across Canada, highlighting the Himachali spirit. CM Sukhu emphasized the importance of such cultural events in maintaining a connection to one’s roots, no matter where they reside. “Dussehra fairs symbolize the vibrant culture, traditions, and divine heritage of Himachal Pradesh. I am proud of how our brothers and sisters in Canada have kept these traditions alive,” he stated.

In his address, the Chief Minister also encouraged the Canadian Himachali community to contribute to Himachal Pradesh’s development, particularly in its mission to become a “Green Energy State” by 2026. He pointed out that investments from the diaspora in green energy projects could significantly strengthen the state’s economy while positioning Himachal as a leader in sustainability. “Your involvement would be a crucial step toward securing the future of our state and enhancing its economic prospects,” CM Sukhu added.

The Dussehra celebration in Ottawa was marked by cultural performances, including the traditional Himachali Naati dance, a presentation of Ram Leela, and renditions of Pahari songs, invoking a sense of nostalgia and pride among attendees. The event also featured a traditional Himachali ‘Dham,’ offering guests an authentic culinary experience.

Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of cultural heritage and the role of Dussehra in fostering unity within the community. The celebration not only strengthened the bond within the Himachali Diaspora but also showcased Himachal Pradesh’s rich traditions on an international platform.
