Incident of Disrespect in Village Gurdwara: Individual Arrested
An incident of disrespect occurred early morning at 5:30 AM in the Gurdwara Singh Sabha of village Atti, where a Nepalese individual allegedly committed sacrilege, prompting the villagers and Sikh community to lodge a complaint with the police. According to Bhai Gobind Singh, the head granthi of the Gurdwara Sahib, he was performing the morning prayers around 5:30 AM when he noticed a person loitering outside through the security cameras. This individual then entered the Gurdwara Sahib, fully opened the small gate, tampered with the wiper near the Nishan Sahib, and struck the Nishan Sahib with the wiper. Furthermore, he entered the Gurdwara Sahib bareheaded and attempted to assault Gobind Singh with a lock from the main gate, but due to the presence of the congregation, he dropped the lock and pulled down the sheets inside the Gurdwara Sahib. When Gobind Singh and the congregation tried to apprehend him after the prayer, he threatened them with a bucket and fled the scene. The incident was immediately reported to the police. SHO Sukhdev Singh, along with his police team, arrived at the scene and arrested the accused, identified as Ganesh Kharga, son of Kesh Bahadur, a resident of Nepal who works in Ludhiana. Village Sarpanch Sohan Lal emphasized the need for strict action by the government against such incidents at religious places to protect devotees’ sentiments. SHO Sukhdev Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against Ganesh Kharga under section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaints from Granthi Gobind Singh and the villagers. The prompt response by the police and the arrest of the accused highlights the commitment to maintaining religious sanctity and community safety.
