Inclement Weather Forecast for Himachal Pradesh with Alerts Issued

Impending Severe Weather Alert for Himachal Pradesh Regions

As we move toward the end of January, residents and visitors in Himachal Pradesh should prepare for a significant bout of severe weather. The state, known for its stunning landscapes and chilly winters, is on the cusp of experiencing a substantial period of rain and snowy conditions. This weather trend is anticipated to span from January 30-31 and persist through to February 3.

The meteorological department has flagged several districts, including the elevated terrains of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu, alongside Mandi, Sirmaur, and Shimla, for a heightened likelihood of precipitation in the form of both snow and rainfall. An alert for heavy precipitation has been specifically singled out for the aforementioned high-altitude districts, taking effect on January 31.

This weather event could possibly usher in robust wind gusts and turbulent storms across both the elevated and plain regions of central Himachal Pradesh. There is an expectation that daily life, including service provision and electrical supply, could be affected due to these weather conditions. The state is no stranger to such conditions, having recently celebrated its Republic Day amidst a blanket of snow across various locales such as the Bharmour area in Chamba, the Dhauladhar range in Kangra, Solang Nala near Manali, and the vicinity of the Atal Tunnel in the Lahaul Valley.

Meanwhile, Shimla, the state’s capital city, is also anticipating a layer of snow to cover its streets, with the forecasts suggesting favourable conditions for such an occurrence.

Temperature readings have shown considerable variation across the state, with Kukumarsari in Lahaul-Spiti registering a biting -7.6 degrees Celsius, indicating the chilly extremes of the region. On the warmer side of the spectrum lies Bilaspur, which witnessed a temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius. Current temperature measurements for Shimla and Manali have recorded 3.2 and 2.3 degrees Celsius, respectively, indicating the chill that has swept over the area.

Given these impending conditions, it is advised for individuals within the state to remain vigilant and to prepare accordingly for the cold snap and accompanying precipitation. With Himachal Pradesh bracing for this influx of winter weather, it’s essential to stay updated with the latest advisories and plan for potential service interruptions. Stay warm and stay safe as this weather phenomenon unfolds.
