Addressing a press conference after the results, Mann said the verdict reflected the confidence that Punjabis have placed in policies centred on free electricity, improved healthcare, education reforms, employment generation and citizen-focused public services.

The Chief Minister argued that the election outcome represented more than a routine municipal contest. In his view, it served as a referendum on the government’s performance during its tenure and demonstrated that voters across urban and rural Punjab continue to support the direction in which the state is being governed.

“The people of Punjab have given a clear verdict in favour of secular and development-oriented politics,” Mann said, noting that voters turned out despite intense summer temperatures. He described the participation as a sign of democratic engagement and public confidence in the electoral process.

The scale of the party’s victory was particularly visible in several politically significant regions. Mann pointed to Dhuri, his own Assembly constituency, where the AAP secured 19 of the 21 seats. He also highlighted the party’s performance in Gidderbaha, considered a politically important constituency associated with the state Congress leadership, where the ruling party emerged victorious in 17 of 19 seats. In Barnala, a district linked with the Punjab BJP’s leadership, Mann said the AAP recorded a commanding performance by winning 37 out of 50 seats.

According to the Chief Minister, the results indicate that support for the AAP extends across Punjab’s major geographical regions, including Majha, Malwa and Doaba. He argued that voters have responded positively to initiatives such as free electricity for households, daytime power supply for farmers, the expansion of healthcare services through Aam Aadmi Clinics and reforms in government school education.

The municipal election results also provided an opportunity for Mann to launch a sharp political attack on opposition parties. He claimed that the Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party collectively failed to generate momentum against the ruling party despite their combined political strength. The Chief Minister argued that voters had rejected campaigns focused on criticism and confrontation and instead rewarded governance and delivery of services.

Particularly critical of the BJP, Mann suggested that the party had failed to convert national political influence into meaningful electoral success within Punjab. He claimed that in many constituencies independent candidates outperformed BJP nominees and said the results demonstrated the limits of the party’s appeal in the state.

Beyond immediate political gains, the Chief Minister framed the municipal election outcome as an indicator of the AAP’s prospects in future electoral contests. He argued that the verdict has strengthened the party’s position ahead of the next Assembly elections and suggested that public support has continued to expand since the landmark 2022 Punjab Assembly election that brought the AAP to power with an overwhelming mandate.

Mann also linked the result to a broader narrative of political resilience. Referring to investigations and actions involving central agencies that opposition parties frequently debate, he claimed that voters had rejected attempts to politically target AAP leaders and workers. He said the electorate had responded through the ballot box rather than political rhetoric.

The Chief Minister further commented on former AAP leaders who left the party after serving in prominent positions, suggesting that the election outcome demonstrated where public opinion currently stands. Without naming specific political developments beyond those already in the public domain, he maintained that voters had rewarded loyalty and performance over political realignment.

While celebrating the result, Mann also sought to reassure citizens that development would not be restricted to areas represented by the ruling party. He pledged that every city, town and village in Punjab would receive equal attention from the government, regardless of political considerations.

Political analysts note that municipal elections often serve as an important measure of public mood between larger state and national contests. Although local issues frequently influence voting patterns, the scale of the AAP’s performance is likely to strengthen the government’s claim that its welfare-focused governance model continues to resonate with a broad section of voters.

For the opposition, the results are expected to trigger introspection over strategy and organisation. For the ruling AAP, however, the municipal verdict has become both a political endorsement and a platform from which it hopes to build its next electoral campaign.

Concluding his remarks, Mann thanked the people of Punjab for what he described as an overwhelming mandate and said the government would treat the verdict not as a moment of celebration alone, but as a renewed responsibility. The election outcome, he said, would inspire the administration to work with greater commitment and dedication in the years ahead.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has described the Aam Aadmi Party’s sweeping performance in the state’s municipal elections as a decisive endorsement of his government’s governance model, arguing that voters have chosen development and welfare over what he termed the opposition’s politics of division and negativity.
