Deported Suspects Accused of Financing and Supporting Plot to Target Railway Infrastructure in Punjab



In a significant breakthrough against cross-border terror networks, Punjab Police have secured the deportation of two alleged operatives linked to the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) from Malaysia, in an operation carried out with the assistance of central security agencies and the Royal Malaysia Police.

The two men, identified as Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Ambala, and Manjeet Singh from Patiala, were taken into custody upon their arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport before being brought to Punjab for further investigation.

According to investigators, both accused are suspected of playing key roles in a Malaysia-based network allegedly associated with KZF activities targeting critical infrastructure in Punjab. Authorities claim they were connected to a terror module accused of planning and supporting attacks on sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor railway network in the state.

The development follows a series of investigations into explosions and attempted attacks on railway freight infrastructure earlier this year. On January 23, 2026, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast was reported near Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib district. A second alleged attempt to damage the same freight corridor was reported near Shambhu in Patiala district on April 27, 2026.

Punjab Police had earlier arrested four suspects in connection with those cases and recovered what investigators described as a substantial cache of militant equipment, including an RPG launcher, explosive devices, RDX, hand grenades, sophisticated pistols and ammunition.

Officials say subsequent investigations revealed an alleged international dimension to the conspiracy, leading investigators to trace financial and logistical links to individuals operating from Malaysia.

According to police, the two deported suspects are believed to have acted as important overseas facilitators, allegedly routing funds through foreign accounts to operatives in Punjab. Investigators claim the funds were intended to support terrorist activities aimed at disrupting public order and targeting strategic installations within the state.

Both accused were produced before a court in Patiala on June 18 and have been remanded to police custody for further questioning.

Security agencies are now examining financial transactions, communication records and international linkages in an effort to uncover the wider network allegedly associated with the conspiracy. Investigators are also seeking to identify additional handlers, facilitators and operatives who may have played a role in the alleged plot.

Punjab Police described the operation as part of a broader effort to dismantle terror ecosystems, disrupt financing channels and prevent attempts to revive militant activities in the region.

The case is being viewed as one of the most significant recent operations involving alleged overseas support networks linked to extremist activities targeting critical infrastructure in Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
