The Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal have criticised the Punjab Government over what they describe as a policy reversal in the implementation of the G-RAM initiative, accusing the Aam Aadmi Party administration of creating uncertainty over a programme intended to strengthen rural governance and development.

Leaders from both opposition parties alleged that the government’s latest decisions amount to a significant departure from its earlier commitments regarding the rollout of the project. They claimed that the change has created confusion among local authorities and raised concerns about delays in rural infrastructure and governance reforms.

Congress leaders accused the government of lacking consistency in policymaking, arguing that repeated changes in administrative decisions undermine public confidence and affect development projects at the grassroots level. They demanded greater transparency regarding the reasons behind the government’s revised approach.

The Shiromani Akali Dal echoed similar concerns, alleging that the government had failed to provide a clear roadmap for implementing the programme. Party leaders said rural communities deserve clarity on projects directly linked to local development, public services and village-level administration.

The Punjab Government, however, has maintained that policy decisions are being reviewed to ensure better implementation and more effective utilisation of public resources. Officials have indicated that any modifications are aimed at improving the scheme rather than abandoning its objectives.

The issue has triggered fresh political sparring in Punjab, with the opposition portraying the decision as evidence of administrative inconsistency, while the ruling AAP insists that governance reforms require periodic evaluation and course correction.
