New Delhi  \u2014 The inclusion of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha\u2019s name in Delhi\u2019s electoral rolls has triggered a fresh political confrontation, with the Aam Aadmi Party alleging that the process of adding his name to the Rajinder Nagar Assembly constituency was not followed in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

AAP leaders raised the issue at a press conference, questioning how Chadha\u2019s name came to be included in the electoral roll during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi\u2019s voter lists. The party has sought greater clarity from election authorities over the circumstances and procedure through which the BJP leader\u2019s name was added.

The controversy centres on the timing and manner of the inclusion. AAP pointed out that the draft electoral roll published on August 31 contained 746 voters in the relevant list, while Chadha subsequently appeared as voter number 747. The party has questioned whether all procedural safeguards were followed before the addition was approved.

Election officials, however, have said Chadha\u2019s name was added through the normal electoral-roll updation process after his name was removed from the voter list in Punjab. According to officials in the office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, his application was among around 700 applications for inclusion approved by Electoral Registration Officers across Delhi\u2019s 70 Assembly constituencies by Tuesday.

The development has given AAP another political issue with which to challenge the BJP, particularly as the revision of Delhi\u2019s electoral rolls has already become a politically sensitive subject.

AAP\u2019s central argument is not simply that Chadha\u2019s name was added, but that the process needs to be transparent and demonstrably compliant with election rules. The party has used the episode to raise broader questions about the credibility and implementation of the SIR exercise and whether the same standards are being applied uniformly to all applicants.

The controversy comes against the backdrop of a significant exercise to revise Delhi\u2019s electoral rolls. According to a statement from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, the electoral roll was frozen on June 16 for preparation of the SIR and remained frozen until the draft rolls were published on August 31.

During this period, around 2.14 lakh Form-6 applications seeking inclusion of names were submitted, in addition to Forms 7 and 8. A further 25,011 Form-6 applications were submitted during the claims and objections period in the eight days up to September 7. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on November 4.

AAP has seized on Chadha\u2019s case to question whether the electoral-roll revision process is sufficiently transparent, particularly when the inclusion involves a prominent political figure. The party\u2019s allegations have also placed the spotlight on the role of Electoral Registration Officers and the documentation required for shifting a voter\u2019s registration from one state to another.

Chadha, meanwhile, has rejected the allegations and maintained that he followed the Election Commission of India\u2019s guidelines and prescribed procedures for the updation of his electoral registration.

The dispute therefore remains centred on competing claims: AAP is demanding scrutiny of what it describes as procedural irregularities, while election officials maintain that Chadha\u2019s inclusion was processed through the established updation mechanism.

For AAP, the episode offers a wider opportunity to question the conduct of the electoral-roll revision and demand accountability from the election machinery. With the final rolls still months away, the controversy is likely to keep the issue of voter-list revisions at the centre of political debate in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
