At the same time, he stressed the importance of the university developing and strengthening its own sources of revenue to support its long-term requirements.

A major focus of the meeting was the expansion of hostel facilities. The Chief Minister said the state government would assist in the construction of separate hostels for boys and girls. Given the importance of campus security, particularly for female students, he directed the authorities to install barbed-wire fencing along the boundary of the girls’ hostel.

Sukhu said the safety and security of students should remain a priority and instructed the concerned departments to take necessary measures to address infrastructure-related vulnerabilities on the campus.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the problem of low voltage affecting the university campus. He directed the concerned authorities to install a new transformer to improve the power supply and instructed them to shift the high-tension (HT) power line passing over the hostel premises.

He further assured the university that adequate financial assistance would be provided for undergrounding overhead electrical wires within the campus. The measure is aimed at reducing safety risks and creating a more secure environment for students, faculty members and other staff.

Water and sanitation infrastructure also figured prominently during the meeting. Sukhu directed the Jal Shakti Department to identify a suitable location for establishing a sewage treatment plant at the university. He said the state government would provide adequate financial support to address the shortage of drinking water affecting the campus.

The proposed measures are expected to address several basic infrastructure requirements that have remained a concern for the university and could contribute to improving the overall facilities available to students.

The Chief Minister also underlined the importance of strengthening the university’s own financial resources. While reiterating the government’s willingness to assist HPNLU, he stressed that the institution should also explore ways of generating additional resources to meet its recurring and future infrastructure requirements.

HPNLU Vice Chancellor Professor Preeti Saxena expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking a personal interest in the issues confronting the university and for assuring government support in resolving its long-pending problems.

The meeting was attended by Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Advocate General Anup Rattan, Chief Secretary K.K. Pant, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary Education Rakesh Kanwar and other senior officers of the state government.

The Chief Minister’s review assumes significance as HPNLU is an important institution for legal education in Himachal Pradesh and attracts students from different parts of the country. Better hostel accommodation, reliable electricity, improved water supply, proper sanitation and enhanced campus security are fundamental to ensuring that students can pursue their studies in a safe and well-equipped environment.

The proposed infrastructure measures also reflect the government’s broader emphasis on strengthening educational institutions and improving facilities for students. By addressing power, water, sanitation and accommodation requirements together, the government is seeking to tackle the university’s immediate infrastructure challenges while creating the foundation for its future expansion.

The Chief Minister’s emphasis on generating its own resources also points towards the need for greater financial sustainability within higher education institutions. Government assistance can address major infrastructure projects, but universities increasingly require independent revenue streams to maintain facilities, support academic activities and respond to emerging requirements.

For HPNLU, the proposed interventions could provide a significant improvement in campus infrastructure. The construction of new hostels would increase accommodation capacity, while the proposed electrical and water-related measures could address some of the basic operational difficulties faced by the institution.

The government has also placed student safety at the centre of the infrastructure plan, particularly through measures concerning the girls’ hostel and the removal or undergrounding of potentially hazardous electrical lines.

With the state government now assuring financial and administrative support, the next phase will involve identification of sites, preparation of plans and execution of the proposed works by the concerned departments.

The meeting thus marks an important step towards addressing HPNLU’s infrastructure requirements and strengthening the institution’s capacity to provide quality legal education in Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"718\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/jeevaypunjab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_20260911_1700359047236686144996839.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jeevaypunjab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_20260911_1700359047236686144996839.jpg 718w, https:\/\/jeevaypunjab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_20260911_1700359047236686144996839-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jeevaypunjab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_20260911_1700359047236686144996839-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jeevaypunjab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/img_20260911_1700359047236686144996839-696x372.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 718px) 100vw, 718px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Government will extend necessary support to strengthen and upgrade the existing infrastructure of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, with the aim of providing students with a safe and conducive environment for quality legal education.
