\u00a0Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has demanded the arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging serious irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal referred to a recent report by The Indian Express concerning objections reportedly raised by two Election Commissioners over decisions related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Kejriwal alleged that the findings reported by The Indian Express showed that concerns over electoral-roll changes were not merely political allegations but involved questions within the Election Commission itself. He accused the BJP and senior leaders of manipulating the electoral process and alleged that elections were being won through what he described as large-scale \u201cvote theft.\u201d

He specifically targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, describing him as the alleged \u201cmastermind\u201d behind what he called the manipulation of votes. Kejriwal demanded that Kumar be arrested and prosecuted for what he termed \u201ctreason\u201d.

The AAP leader also called for the restoration of electoral rolls from three years ago and demanded that all changes made under the SIR exercise be cancelled.

Kejriwal’s demands come amid a growing political controversy over the functioning of the Election Commission and the ongoing revision of electoral rolls. The Indian Express has reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections on multiple occasions over decisions concerning the SIR process, voter registration procedures and electoral-roll systems.

The Election Commission, however, has disputed the suggestion of an institutional rift. Sources within the poll panel have maintained that decisions relating to SIR and other electoral matters were taken unanimously with the approval of the Chief Election Commissioner and both Election Commissioners.

The controversy has therefore moved beyond the technical process of revising electoral rolls and has become a major political confrontation between the Opposition and the Election Commission. While Kejriwal and other Opposition leaders are demanding accountability and reversal of SIR-related changes, the Election Commission maintains that its decisions have been taken in accordance with the established process.

The immediate political focus is now on the reported objections within the Election Commission, the methodology adopted for the electoral-roll revision and whether the poll panel will provide a detailed public response to the concerns raised by its own members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
