NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has carried out a major organisational reshuffle, appointing new in-charges and co-in-charges for states and Union Territories as it prepares its organisation for the next round of Assembly elections, including the crucial 2027 electoral cycle.

The appointments, announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday, cover all 28 states and eight Union Territories. Several senior leaders have been assigned responsibilities in states that are scheduled to go to the polls next year, putting the party’s organisational machinery into a new phase of preparation.

Former Union minister and BJP national general secretary Smriti Irani has been appointed the party’s in-charge for Haryana as well as Chhattisgarh. In Haryana, she will work with national secretary Bhola Singh, who has been named co-in-charge.

The Haryana assignment comes at a significant organisational juncture for the BJP. The party is now preparing for the next phase of its political strategy in the state, with the new team expected to work closely with the state organisation and leadership on organisational strengthening, coordination and election preparedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Satish Poonia, who has previously handled the Haryana organisation, has been moved to Punjab. He has been appointed BJP in-charge for Punjab and will be assisted by former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and Alka Gurjar as co-in-charges.

Poonia’s Punjab assignment assumes importance as the state is among those scheduled for Assembly elections in 2027. The new team will be tasked with strengthening the party organisation, coordinating with its state leadership and preparing the party machinery for the electoral battle ahead.

In Himachal Pradesh, senior BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Shrikant Sharma has been appointed the party’s state in-charge. Darshana Singh has been named co-in-charge.

The Himachal assignment also comes ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The new organisational team will be expected to coordinate with the state leadership and workers while focusing on organisational expansion, booth-level preparedness and election-related planning.

The BJP has also made changes in several other politically significant states. Vinod Tawde has been appointed in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, while Ram Madhav will handle Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand. Sunil Bansal has been assigned Telangana and West Bengal, while Harish Dwivedi will oversee Bihar and Karnataka.

Baijayant Jay Panda has been appointed Maharashtra in-charge, with Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat as co-in-charges. Tarun Chugh has been given responsibility for Gujarat, while Biplab Kumar Deb has been appointed in-charge of Madhya Pradesh.

The party has also assigned responsibilities for Chandigarh, with Mahendra Pandey appointed as in-charge.

The reshuffle comes at a time when the BJP is strengthening its organisational structure in states where Assembly elections are due in 2027. Besides Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, elections are expected in several other states, making the appointments part of a wider organisational exercise rather than isolated changes.

For Haryana, the appointment of Smriti Irani places a nationally prominent BJP leader at the centre of the party’s organisational efforts in the state. Her responsibility extends to Chhattisgarh as well, where Siddharth Shambhu has been appointed co-in-charge.

In Punjab, Poonia returns to a state where the BJP faces the task of expanding its organisational base and preparing for the 2027 Assembly election. His team includes Sachdeva and Alka Gurjar, giving the state unit a three-member central organisational team.

Himachal Pradesh, meanwhile, gets Shrikant Sharma as its new in-charge, with Darshana Singh assisting him. The party’s focus there will be particularly significant given the state’s 2027 electoral schedule and the continuing contest between the BJP and Congress.

The appointments are effective immediately and represent one of the BJP’s broader organisational exercises under Nitin Nabin’s leadership. The new teams will now have to translate the central organisational changes into state-level planning, coordination and ground-level mobilisation as the party moves towards the 2027 Assembly elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
