Amritsar \u2014 In a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled three separate weapons supply networks, arrested eight alleged members and recovered 15 illegal pistols along with 15 live cartridges.

According to Punjab Police, preliminary investigation indicates that the accused were allegedly operating in coordination with arms smugglers based abroad and were procuring illegal firearms for further distribution among criminal elements.

Police said the investigation has also uncovered links between the arrested suspects and other individuals allegedly involved in the wider illegal arms supply chain. Authorities are now working to establish the complete network and identify those involved in both the procurement and distribution of the weapons.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Police Station Islamabad and Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar in connection with the three operations.

The arrests and recovery are being viewed as a significant breakthrough in the police campaign against the circulation of illegal firearms, particularly networks suspected of having links with overseas-based handlers.

Investigators are conducting further questioning of the accused to establish the source of the weapons, identify their intended recipients and trace the financial and logistical channels allegedly used to move the firearms.

Police are also examining the backward and forward linkages of the networks to determine whether the accused were connected with other criminal groups or individuals involved in organised crime.

The latest operation comes amid heightened efforts by Punjab Police to disrupt illegal arms supply chains and prevent criminal networks from accessing firearms. Authorities have maintained that dismantling the supply infrastructure is crucial to preventing targeted violence, gang-related crime and other serious offences.

Punjab Police said its focus remains on identifying and dismantling the entire network rather than limiting investigations to the immediate arrests. Further action is expected as investigators trace the wider connections of the accused and establish the role of other suspected associates.

The police reiterated that strict action would be taken against those involved in the illegal manufacture, smuggling, supply or circulation of firearms and that sustained surveillance would continue against organised criminal networks operating in Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
