Chandigarh,  Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has accused the BJP-led Central Government of using investigating agencies to intimidate opposition leaders, asserting that repeated raids against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) representatives would neither weaken the party nor distract his government from its development agenda.

Reacting to the search operation at the residence of AAP MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur, Mann alleged that central agencies were acting under political directions to silence dissent. He maintained that such actions would yield nothing against AAP leaders committed to public service and would not deter the government from fulfilling its promises to Punjab.

Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said the Centre should focus on resolving people’s problems instead of pursuing what he described as politically motivated investigations and vendetta. He asserted that intimidation and political pressure could not override the mandate given by Punjab’s electorate.

On political rallies, Mann said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other political representatives were free to hold public meetings and exercise their democratic rights. He emphasised that freedom of political expression and participation was essential to a healthy democracy.

Highlighting his government’s performance, Mann cited improvements in healthcare, education and sports infrastructure, including the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics, strengthening of government schools and development of more than 2,000 sports grounds across the state. He also referred to the cleaning of drains under the Seechewal model and restoration of canal-water supplies in areas that had remained deprived of the facility for decades.

The Chief Minister said farmers were now receiving electricity during morning hours, providing relief to the agricultural community. He reiterated that the government was working to address farmers’ concerns and improve facilities for the sector.

Mann also highlighted the Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Scheme, stating that around 50 buses were operating daily and facilitating religious journeys for approximately 2,000 devotees to pilgrimage destinations in Punjab and other states. He said the initiative aimed to make religious travel accessible and convenient for people from different sections of society.

Referring to the Asian Champions Trophy, the Chief Minister said the enthusiastic public response to the international hockey tournament had once again demonstrated Punjab’s deep-rooted sporting culture. He invited sports enthusiasts to watch the India-Korea semi-final and said the government was committed to developing world-class facilities to help young athletes excel at national and international levels.

Mann also rejected the suggestion that financial constraints could become an excuse for failing to meet public commitments. He said welfare and public interest would remain the government’s priorities and that his administration would continue working for employees, farmers, young people and other sections of society.

Responding to questions about the announcement of 40 candidates, he described it as part of the party’s ongoing organisational process and said the remaining names would be declared at an appropriate time.

The Chief Minister further criticised statements that, in his view, distorted facts and damaged Punjab’s image. He said the state and its people deserved respect and that his government would continue to defend their interests.

Mann concluded that political pressure and alleged attempts to destabilise the party would not change the government’s priorities. He said the administration would remain focused on development, public welfare and improving the quality of life of Punjabis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
