Punjab is set to witness a major energy transformation as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann<\/strong> and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal<\/strong> today laid the foundation stone for a \u20b916,000-crore Power Transmission and Distribution Modernization Project<\/strong> at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara. The ambitious project aims to make Punjab the first state in North India<\/strong> to achieve round-the-clock, free electricity supply<\/strong> within the next year.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Under this large-scale modernization drive, the state will install 25,000 kilometers of new power cables<\/strong>, 8,000 new transformers<\/strong>, 77 modern substations<\/strong>, and overhaul 200 existing substations<\/strong> to upgrade the state\u2019s power infrastructure. The entire system will be integrated with the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)<\/strong> system, enabling real-time control and monitoring from a central command room \u2014 ensuring stability, efficiency, and transparency across the grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the ceremony, Arvind Kejriwal<\/strong> emphasized that the project marks a new era of reliable and affordable energy for every household, farmer, and industrial unit in Punjab. \u201cThere is no shortage of electricity in Punjab. The problem lies in the outdated transmission and distribution network which was neglected for decades. With this project, we are rebuilding the system from the ground up,\u201d Kejriwal said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He announced that by next summer<\/strong>, Punjab will witness zero power cuts<\/strong>, a milestone that few states in India have achieved. \u201cIn just four months of forming the government, we made electricity free for 90% of Punjab\u2019s households. Now, we are ensuring it reaches everyone, 24 hours a day,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kejriwal also pointed out that farmers are no longer forced to irrigate their fields at night, and industries are now getting power at one of the lowest tariffs in the country<\/strong> \u2014 ranking Punjab as the fourth-cheapest electricity provider<\/strong> for the industrial sector in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann<\/strong>, echoing Kejriwal\u2019s vision, said that the initiative would not only provide uninterrupted power but also boost Punjab\u2019s economy by attracting more industries and investments. \u201cWith reliable power and modern infrastructure, Punjab\u2019s progress will accelerate. Every home, every farm, every factory will be empowered,\u201d Mann stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi Chief Minister also extended greetings on the auspicious occasion of Shri Guru Ramdas Ji\u2019s Prakash Parv<\/strong>, highlighting the significance of launching such a transformative project on a spiritually meaningful day for Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, Kejriwal also expressed deep appreciation for Rajya Sabha MP and LPU Chancellor Dr. Ashok Mittal<\/strong>, who had recently announced that families who lost their loved ones during the devastating floods in Punjab would receive employment opportunities at the university<\/strong>. \u201cGovernments make such promises, but for an individual to take such responsibility on a personal level is truly commendable,\u201d Kejriwal remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This historic project comes as a significant step toward making Punjab a self-reliant power state<\/strong> \u2014 one that delivers on AAP\u2019s core promise of accessible, affordable, and uninterrupted electricity for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once completed, the \u20b916,000-crore network will place Punjab among India\u2019s top-performing states in energy efficiency, serving as a model for modern, sustainable power governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
