His outreach comes at a time when agricultural policies and procurement transparency are becoming central political issues in Haryana, especially with opposition parties raising questions over farmer welfare and compensation delays.

Projecting confidence in the system, the Chief Minister emphasized that wheat procurement across all mandis and purchase centers in the state is proceeding without disruption. He reiterated that the government is committed to purchasing “every single grain” brought by farmers, signaling an attempt to reinforce trust among the agrarian community, which remains a decisive electoral bloc.

Official data presented during the review paints a picture of robust procurement activity. As of April 12, approximately 39.65 lakh metric tonnes of wheat had arrived in mandis across the state. Of this, biometric verification has been completed for around 30.90 lakh metric tonnes involving nearly 2.44 lakh farmers. Meanwhile, over 10.92 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has already been procured, with direct payments amounting to nearly ₹188 crore transferred into farmers’ bank accounts.

The procurement season, which began on April 1, is being conducted under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) framework fixed by the Government of India at ₹2,585 per quintal. To facilitate smooth operations, the state has activated an extensive procurement network comprising 416 mandis and purchase centers, supplemented by 264 additional temporary procurement sites. This expansion is being projected by the government as a major logistical upgrade aimed at reducing congestion and improving farmer access.

However, beyond the numbers, the Chief Minister’s emphasis remained firmly on systemic reforms. Highlighting new governance measures, he pointed to the introduction of a three-tier crop verification system designed to ensure that the produce brought to mandis matches the crops registered by farmers. This step, officials claim, will curb irregularities, prevent unauthorized transactions, and enhance the credibility of the procurement process.

Saini framed these reforms as part of a broader push toward digital governance, transparency, and accountability—key themes that have increasingly defined the ruling administration’s narrative. “We are continuously working to make the procurement system more secure, transparent, and farmer-friendly,” he said, underlining that technology-driven monitoring will play a crucial role in eliminating inefficiencies.

The visit also addressed a pressing concern that has emerged in recent weeks—crop damage due to unseasonal rains. Acknowledging reports from districts such as Fatehabad, Hisar, Sirsa, and Kurukshetra, the Chief Minister said that the government has already activated a compensation mechanism. A dedicated portal has been opened for affected farmers in identified villages, allowing them to submit claims for crop loss compensation until April 15.

This proactive approach is being seen as both an administrative necessity and a politically calibrated move, as agrarian distress—especially due to erratic weather patterns—has historically influenced electoral outcomes in the region. By urging farmers to register their claims promptly, the government is attempting to project responsiveness and minimize discontent.

Importantly, Saini’s direct engagement with farmers during the mandi visit also reflects a broader political strategy. With opposition parties often accusing governments of being disconnected from ground realities, such interactions serve as a counter-narrative, reinforcing the image of an accessible and responsive leadership.

At the same time, the Chief Minister issued a clear message to officials, stressing the importance of strict monitoring and timely execution. He warned that any negligence in procurement operations or farmer services would not be tolerated, indicating a top-down push for administrative accountability.

As Haryana moves deeper into the procurement season, the state government’s handling of wheat procurement, compensation for crop losses, and delivery of MSP payments will likely remain under intense public and political scrutiny. With rural sentiment playing a pivotal role in shaping electoral dynamics, the success or failure of these initiatives could have far-reaching implications.

For now, the government appears keen to showcase efficiency, transparency, and farmer welfare as the cornerstones of its governance model—while the opposition continues to watch closely, ready to challenge any gaps that emerge on the ground.

In a politically significant move amid growing scrutiny over agrarian governance, Nayab Singh Saini on Monday undertook a ground-level review of the ongoing wheat procurement process, asserting that the state government remains firmly committed to ensuring seamless, transparent, and farmer-centric operations across Haryana’s mandis.
