ISBT Shimla Case to Be Discussed in Upcoming Cabinet Meeting
The ongoing issue regarding the operation of the ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal) in Shimla is set to be addressed in the upcoming cabinet meeting. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has sought a detailed report from the Managing Director of the corporation, Rohan Chand Thakur, regarding the matter. The Shimla ISBT operations company is requesting to transfer the management of the terminal to the government, along with a demand for ₹82 crores. The company also wants to exit from the deal that was previously agreed upon with the government. As a result, the government has decided to bring this matter to the cabinet for further discussion. The cabinet will examine when the project began, when it was completed, and how the purchase was handled. The report from the corporation’s management will provide these crucial details to the government.
In addition to this, the cases of the McLeodganj and Kangra bus stands will also be presented in the cabinet. The government has faced a setback in an arbitration award related to these two bus stands, which ruled against the government, directing a payment of ₹25 crores. The government has requested a detailed report on these matters as well, and a decision will be made in the cabinet regarding both issues.
The operating company for ISBT Shimla has submitted a proposal to the government, suggesting that the terminal be taken over by the government. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Shimla is seeking to recover several years’ worth of outstanding property taxes from the company, amounting to approximately ₹6.5 crores. Despite multiple notices, the corporation has been unsuccessful in collecting the tax dues from ISBT, prompting the company to propose transferring the terminal’s operation to the government.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has instructed the corporation’s management to provide complete details to the Board of Directors (BOD) about the ongoing legal cases. With over 3,000 cases currently pending in the court, including some that the corporation has lost, Agnihotri emphasized the importance of the BOD being informed about the legal outcomes, particularly in cases where the corporation has been required to make payments. The situation underscores the financial and operational challenges faced by the corporation, making the resolution of these issues even more critical for the government.
