In a commendable operation underscoring their relentless fight against drug trafficking, the Kangra Police Station’s dedicated team has made a significant dent in the local drug trade by confiscating 1.945 kilograms of charas. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals: Sukhram (46) and Vishan Das (46) from Paddar, Mandi, and Shubhkaran (24) from Rompa, Jawali, Kangra, on  Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police, Kangra, Shalini Agnihotri, revealed that Vishan Das and Sukhram had sourced the charas from Paddar and were in the process of distributing it to Shubhkaran, who intended to further disseminate it across Jawali and surrounding regions. However, their plans were thwarted when the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kangra, along with his team, successfully intercepted the trio near the Kachiari petrol pump, preventing the distribution of the drug.

SP Agnihotri highlighted that this seizure represents one of the most substantial in recent years, marking a significant victory for the Kangra Police in combating the menace of drugs. The accused have been detained under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are expected to be presented before a magistrate shortly.

The investigation revealed that the home-produced charas was initially sold by the manufacturers at approximately Rs. 50,000 per kilogram to the first buyer. This contraband, once fractionated into smaller quantities, could fetch between 3 to 4 lakhs in the black market, indicating the high profit margins involved in this illicit trade.

This operation not only underscores the police’s dedication to curbing drug trafficking but also highlights the critical need for community awareness and cooperation in the ongoing battle against drug abuse and distribution.
