According to Mittal’s initial statement to the police, he stopped his car at around 12:45 AM near Dehlon Bypass, stating that he needed to use the restroom. At that moment, a vehicle pulled up behind them, and five to six unknown assailants stepped out. He alleged that the attackers struck his leg with an iron rod and covered his face with a cloth, rendering him unconscious.

Mittal further claimed that when he regained consciousness 15-20 minutes later, his car was missing, and he found his wife lying critically injured on the road. Manvi’s body bore deep wounds inflicted with sharp-edged weapons, indicating a violent assault. The Dehlon police team, led by Inspector Sukhjinder Singh, responded swiftly and rushed her to the Civil Hospital in Dehlon, but due to the severity of her injuries, she was shifted to Dayanand Hospital in Ludhiana, where she was pronounced dead.

Mittal had attempted to portray the incident as a robbery, stating that the attackers had stolen his wife’s gold bangle, chain, and their Ritz car before fleeing. However, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team, led by Inspector Bikramjit Singh Ghumman, found his version of events highly suspicious.
