Mandi Landslide: Search Continues for Last Missing Person,  Amidst Heroic Rescue Efforts

Tireless Efforts by Authorities in Mandi Landslide Rescue Operation

The tireless dedication of local authorities and rescue teams in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, is truly commendable. DC Mandi, Apurv Devgan, and his team, including ADM Dr. Madan Kumar and Executive SDM Bhavana, have been working day and night without any reward to manage the search and rescue operations in the aftermath of the devastating landslide in Rajban village. Their relentless efforts, along with the support of the local community and various departments, have been instrumental in the ongoing search and recovery mission.

On July 31, a severe landslide struck Rajban village in the Padhar subdivision of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. As of the sixth day of search operations, the ninth body has been recovered on Tuesday afternoon. The body has been identified as Khuddi, a 46-year-old woman, wife of Chandan Lal. Now, only one person, 30-year-old Hardev, son of Bhagat Ram, remains missing. DC Mandi, Apurv Devgan, confirmed the recovery of the ninth body and stated that the search for the final missing person continues.

DC Devgan highlighted that the road and pathways leading to Rajban village were completely damaged due to the cloudburst and subsequent landslide, making it impossible to bring in machinery initially. After six days of strenuous efforts, the district administration successfully transported a Poklen machine to the village on Tuesday. Although the road is still not accessible for other vehicles, the arrival of the machine has significantly aided in clearing the debris.

The landslide, triggered by a cloudburst on the night of July 31, engulfed three houses in Rajban village. Two houses were completely buried, while the third suffered significant damage. Twelve people from these three homes were caught in the landslide’s path. Tragically, two individuals were injured, and ten went missing. To date, nine bodies have been recovered.

Given the difficulty in transporting machinery to the site, the administration, with the help of rescue teams and local residents, initiated a search operation. DC Apurv Devgan initially led the effort, followed by ADM Dr. Madan Kumar, who has been present at the site. Executive SDM Bhavana and Tehsildar Padhar have also been consistently on the ground. For the past three days, District Revenue Officer Harish Sharma has taken charge of the operations. Additionally, SP Mandi Sakshi Verma inspected the site on Tuesday, providing further oversight and coordination.

The relentless efforts by the authorities and the community have been crucial in managing this disaster. Deputy Tehsildar, Kanungo, Patwari, Panchayat representatives, and other public representatives, along with relief and rescue teams, have been working around the clock to locate the remaining missing person and support the affected families.

The Mandi landslide has brought immense tragedy to Rajban village, but the unwavering commitment and cooperation of local authorities and the community have been a beacon of hope. Their tireless work and dedication, often without any reward, highlight the resilience and strength of the human spirit in the face of disaster. As the search operation continues, the entire community remains united in their efforts to recover and rebuild.
