Meeting with Political Parties: Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer Shares Final Voter Roll Details

Sibin C., Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, convened a meeting with political party representatives to provide them with CDs containing the final publication of the Electoral Roll (without photos). He emphasized that the Photo Electoral Rolls, including photos, are available for viewing at the offices of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Electoral Registration Officers, and BLOs.

As of the final publication on January 22, 2024, Punjab has a total of 21,231,916 registered voters. The breakdown includes 11,175,220 male voters, 10,055,946 female voters, 750 third-gender voters, 1,595 NRI voters, 165,410 disabled voters, and 106,635 service voters.

Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C. shared that Punjab has a total of 24,433 polling stations, with 7,648 in urban areas and 16,785 in rural areas. All polling stations are conveniently set up on the ground floor, ensuring that no voter has to travel more than 2 km to cast their vote.

To enhance public awareness and increase voter turnout, three vans have been deployed to physically demonstrate the functionality of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). During the meeting, political party representatives were urged to appoint booth-level agents at each polling station, ensuring transparent conduct during the elections. The meeting, attended by Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Bharat Bhushan Bansal and Electoral Officer Anju Bala, aimed to facilitate a smooth and transparent electoral process.
