Nationwide Campaign Launched by ECI for EVM and VVPAT Awareness Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
Chandigarh, January 19: In preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated an extensive awareness program on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems. More than 3500 demonstration centers and nearly 4250 mobile vans have been deployed for this nationwide campaign.
Highlighting the initiative, a spokesperson mentioned that this awareness program, a routine practice preceding every General Election, aims to provide citizens with a hands-on experience of the voting process and enhance their familiarity with EVMs and VVPATs. The program focuses on imparting knowledge about the fundamental features of these machines, explaining the step-by-step voting procedure, and educating voters on how to verify their choices through the VVPAT slip.
Physical demonstrations play a crucial role in fostering a deeper understanding of EVM and VVPAT functionality, dispelling misconceptions, boosting voter confidence, and ensuring a more informed and participative electorate, the spokesperson added. The comprehensive program includes outreach and awareness activities in 3464 Assembly Constituencies across 613 Districts in 31 States/UTs (excluding five states that recently conducted polls). Over 3500 demonstration centers and approximately 4250 mobile vans have been strategically set up to showcase EVM/VVPAT functionality to the public. Additionally, Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and District Electoral Officers (DEOs) are leveraging social media platforms to share updates and maximize the outreach of this crucial awareness initiative.
