Amritsar, (Kumar Soni): In a shocking incident on Saturday morning around 7 a.m., two motorbike riders entered a home in Daburji, located on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road, and shot an NRI, American citizen Sukhchain Singh, leaving him critically injured. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Sukhchain Singh, who was preparing to go to the gym, was shot twice when he resisted the assailants’ demands for the papers of his Mercedes car. The gunmen dragged him into a room and fired several shots. However, a technical malfunction with the pistol prevented them from inflicting more harm.

The harrowing situation was further intensified as Sukhchain Singh’s mother and children begged the attackers to spare his life. Despite their desperate pleas and the children’s cries, the assailants remained unmoved, showing no mercy. According to the family, the attackers appeared determined to kill Sukhchain Singh. The police have launched an investigation and are working to apprehend the culprits.

This violent act has created an atmosphere of fear among the local residents, who expressed deep concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Amritsar. Many believe that there is a growing sense of lawlessness, with anti-social elements operating with impunity.

Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Rajkumar Verka condemned the attack, calling it a grave indicator of the state’s poor law and order. He criticized the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government, stating that the state is witnessing a surge in crimes such as robberies, murders, and assaults. He also urged the Chief Minister to resign, holding the government responsible for the current state of insecurity in Punjab.

This incident underscores the urgent need for improved security measures in Amritsar and across Punjab to protect its residents from the increasing threat of violence.
