Pathankot’s 44 VLDCs pledge to cooperate with Punjab Police in fight against drugs, declare their villages drug-free

Chandigarh / Pathankot, September 5:

Ahead of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to make Punjab a drug-free state by next Independence Day, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday ordered to dismantle the drug supply network in Pathankot and curb drug trafficking. An important meeting was held with the 44 Village Level Defense Committees (VLDCs) there to formulate a proper strategy.
It is to be noted that the VLDCs act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the security forces and play an important role at the ground level in obtaining real information on interdiction of drug networks.

Inviting them to unite and work as teams, he said that the Punjab Police has implemented a three-pronged strategy-enforcement, de-narcotics and prevention to root out drugs in the state. IG Border Range Amritsar Narinder Bhargava, DIG BSF Gurdaspur, Deputy Commissioner Pathankot Harbir Singh and SSP Pathankot Harkamal Preet Singh Khakkh were also present with him on this occasion.

In this historic moment, 44 VLDCs of Pathankot have taken a stand against drug related issues and declared their villages as “drug free zones”. The representatives of VLDCs vowed to work together with the Punjab Police to eliminate the drug epidemic from their area.

As a symbol of empowerment and recognition, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav presented new identity cards and special jackets to the VLDCs to identify them and provide support to law enforcers. He also appreciated the extraordinary dedication and commitment shown by the VLDCs during the flood crisis and honored the two best performing VLDCs for their exemplary services.

During the meeting, DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized the need to revive old humanitarian intelligence through real-time gathering and information sharing. He emphasized that collective efforts are very important to solve the border challenges.

He ordered to provide new beat books to the Village Police Officers (VPOs) to facilitate sharing of vital information related to narcotics with the police and to facilitate timely exchange of vital intelligence between the law enforcers in the society.

It may be mentioned that the DGP Punjab has already made an important announcement by offering a reward of Rs. The objective of this proactive measure is to curb illegal activities and enhance security along Punjab’s borders.

Significantly, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav also inaugurated two newly constructed police stations-Sadar and Taragarh, further reinforcing the commitment to provide seamless and efficient police services to the common people. These modern facilities are available to strengthen law enforcement efforts and mutual cooperation.
