PGIMER Chandigarh Celebrates 61st Foundation Day with Grand Event, Highlights Contributions and Future Plans
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh marked its 61st Foundation Day with a grand celebration at Bhargava Auditorium, Chandigarh, on July 8, 2024. The event was graced by Chief Guest Lt. Gen. Daljit Singh AVSM, VSM, PHS; Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps. Various medical and non-medical staff of PGIMER were honored with mementos by the Chief Guest in recognition of their dedicated service. In his address to the institute fraternity, Lt. Gen. Daljit Singh commended PGIMER’s remarkable contributions over the years, noting that it has carved a special niche in the medical fraternity. He likened PGIMER’s role to the five rivers of Punjab, highlighting its critical role in handling the inflow of patients from five states. He emphasized the importance of the Armed Forces Medical Services in maintaining peace and security, enabling citizens to live peacefully in Chandigarh. Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER, expressed his gratitude for being associated with such an iconic institution. He lauded PGIMER as the ‘Karmabhoomi’ for its medical professionals who tirelessly serve patients from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Prof. Lal congratulated all the medical and non-medical staff, recognizing their silent hard work beyond duty hours. He attributed PGIMER’s ability to manage a large patient inflow to the dedicated efforts of its staff. Speaking to the media, Prof. Lal emphasized PGIMER’s role as a national asset, stating that the institute does not view the large patient footfall as a burden but as a duty to serve. He noted the immense faith patients have in the institute, which inspires the staff to serve them even better. PGIMER handles a footfall of 30 lakh patients annually, and the government is committed to increasing personnel strength to meet this demand. The Director also highlighted upcoming developments, including the opening of an iconic Maternal and Child Care Centre. He expressed optimism about the future, stating that in two years, PGIMER will be even better and that efforts are in full swing to enhance the institute’s services. The celebration underscored PGIMER’s significant impact on the medical field and its continuous efforts to improve patient care. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to excellence and a vision for a brighter future for PGIMER and its stakeholders.
