Power Secretary Agarwal visits Tehri Hydro Complex, stresses on India’s energy security and sustainable development
Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal inspects India’s largest 2400 MW Tehri Hydro Complex
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, October 1, 2023:
Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Ministry of Power (Government of India), on Saturday undertook a detailed inspection visit of the 2400 MW Tehri Hydro Complex in Tehri, Uttarakhand.
During his visit, Agarwal inspected the upstream surge shafts, butterfly valve chamber, penstock assembly chamber, power house, and TRT outfall. He also held a detailed review meeting with the management and senior officers of the Tehri Hydro Project.
Agarwal conveyed appreciation of the highest standards of operation and maintenance activities being carried out by THDC officials. He stated that THDC is not only valuably contributing by providing affordable, clean, and green energy to the Northern Grid, but it has also played a most significant role in flood control and irrigation, leading to the overall socio-economic upliftment of the entire region.
Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), and L. P. Joshi, Executive Director (Tehri Complex), provided valuable insights into the ongoing works of the 4×250 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP).
R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited, emphasized that the Tehri PSP is the largest pumped storage plant among the Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in the country. He further informed that the first unit of THDC’s flagship Tehri PSP is scheduled to be commissioned in February 2024, followed by other units in phases.
