Punjab Congress President Opposes SC Order of Conducting Survey for SYL Canal

Chandigarh, October 4:

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today reacted sharply to the Supreme Court’s order of conducting a survey in Punjab of the land meant for construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.

In a statement, Warring said that Punjab has no surplus water to share, so no question of conducting a survey arises. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of weakening Punjab’s case, saying that AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta had previously said that the party would form the SYL canal and deliver water to every farm in Haryana.

Warring also said that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had made similar statements during campaigning in Haryana. He further said that it is clear that the AAP is planning to gain a foothold in Northern India through this issue.

Warring warned that the SYL canal issue is not just about constructing a canal, but also about the emotions of the Punjabi people. He said that Punjab has faced a dark period due to the SYL issue in the past and warned the AAP and other players involved not to play with the emotions of Punjab.

Commenting on the order of survey, Warring said that the Haryana government has already conducted the survey and completed its side of construction because they need the water, but Punjab has no water to spare, so no question of conducting a survey in Punjab should arise.
