Punjab Cracks Down on Human Trafficking: SIT Formed to Investigate Nicaragua Case
Chandigarh, December 30, 2023: In a swift response to reports of human trafficking involving 303 Indian passengers, mostly from Punjab and Gujarat, the Punjab Police have constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the case. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Director Bureau of Investigation (BOI) LK Yadav announced the formation of the SIT on Saturday.
This case, which has sent shockwaves through the state, unfolded when French authorities detained the 303 passengers in Nicaragua. The specific methods employed by the traffickers and the circumstances surrounding the detainment remain under investigation by the SIT.
Led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Ferozepur Randhir Kumar, the SIT boasts a robust team consisting of three other dedicated officers: ACP Civil Lines Ludhiana Jasroop Kaur Baath, DSP Investigation Ferozepur Balkar Singh Sandhu, and DSP Headquarters Patiala Dalbir Singh Sidhu. Their expertise in diverse areas of investigation promises a thorough and meticulous probe.
The SIT has been entrusted with the crucial task of expeditiously investigating the case and submitting a comprehensive report to the competent court. They are empowered to co-opt any additional officers or officials if needed to ensure a swift and successful investigation.
