Punjab Gears Up for Flood Preparedness: CM Directs Chief Secretary to Mobilize Deputy Commissioners
In a proactive move to safeguard the people of Punjab, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma has directed all Deputy Commissioners to be on high alert and ready to tackle any flood-related contingencies, following the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Verma held a video conference with the DCs, emphasizing the importance of preparedness as the state braces for the upcoming monsoon season.
According to the Chief Secretary, flood protection works amounting to a staggering ₹252 crores are currently underway, which is 1.5 times the average work carried out in the last two years. Verma has instructed the DCs to revisit the vulnerable spots in their respective districts and ensure that the flood protection measures have been satisfactorily completed. Additionally, he has directed the DCs to maintain constant communication with the local population residing near the vulnerable areas throughout the monsoon season.
The Chief Secretary has also stressed the need for thorough cleaning of the sewerage systems in cities, as well as the availability of generators and de-watering pumps to mitigate the impact of potential waterlogging. Arrangements have been made to procure 8.5 lakh EC bags and position them near the vulnerable points in various districts. The DCs have also been directed to review the electricity arrangements with the PSPCL authorities to minimize disruptions during the rainy season.
Preparedness is the key, and the Punjab government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. With the Chief Secretary’s directives and the coordinated efforts of the state machinery, the people of Punjab can rest assured that the authorities are fully equipped to tackle the challenges posed by the impending monsoon.
