Punjab government appoints Gurminder Singh as new Advocate General
The Punjab government has appointed Gurminder Singh as the new Advocate General of the state. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on October 5, 2023.
Punjab has no surplus water to give to any state, SYL said. The question does not arise
The Punjab cabinet has said that the state has no surplus water to give to any other state, so the question of building the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal does not arise. The cabinet said in clear words that the river Sutlej has already dried up and there is no question of Punjab sharing even a single drop with any other state. Punjab does not have surplus water to share with Haryana and there is a need to reassess water availability as per international norms.
Permission to send cases of anticipatory release of prisoners
The Punjab cabinet has also agreed to send the cases of two prisoners serving life sentences in the jails of the state for early release. After the approval of the Cabinet, the cases of anticipatory release will be referred to the Governor of Punjab for consideration under Article 161 of the Constitution of India.
Big relief to people, exemption from 3 percent additional stamp duty till December 31
Giving a big relief to the people of Punjab, the Cabinet has approved exemption from 3 percent additional stamp duty (Social Security Fund) on property registration in urban areas (Municipal Corporation and Class-I Municipal Councils) till December 31, 2023. In the larger interest of the people, the Cabinet has given approval to repeal Section 3-C and Schedule 1-B of the Indian Stamp Act-1899 which is leviable under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899. This move will give exemption to land buyers in urban areas (Municipal Corporations and Class-I Municipal Councils).
PGST Approval of the proposal of (Amendment) Bill-2023
The Cabinet has given green light to the proposal to introduce the Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill-2023, which will introduce GST. As per the orders of the Council, necessary amendments will be made in Punjab Goods and Services. Punjab GST to promote taxpayer convenience and ease of doing business It is proposed to make some amendments in the Act-2017 in which GST These include creation of Appellate Tribunal and its state benches, decriminalization of certain offences, facilitation of supply of goods by e-commerce operators to small traders, consent-based sharing of information and legal provisions for online gaming and taxation.
Green flag for policy to regularize existing single buildings
As promised to industrialists during the recent ‘Government-Industry Meets’, the Cabinet has given the go-ahead to the policy of regularizing the existing single buildings. The decision will apply to single buildings constructed without approval outside municipal limits, urban estates and industrial focal points, including hotels, multiplexes, farmhouses, educational, medical and industrial institutions and other buildings. According to this policy, the single buildings constructed so far without approval will be given an opportunity to apply for regularization till December 31, 2023. Under this policy, various CLUs, EDCs, SIFs, regularization fees, processing fees and mining charges, as applicable, as per the purpose of the building, are concerned at the time of deposit. Benefits can be availed by submitting documents. Cases received under this policy will be disposed of within six months.
