Punjab Governor Pays Homage at Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on Shaheedi Jor Mela

Chandigarh, India – December 28, 2023: On the occasion of the Shaheedi Jor Mela, commemorating the martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh, and Mata Gujri, Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit, paid his respects at Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.

Governor Purohit offered prayers and paid his respects at the holy shrine.He praised the courage and sacrifice of the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Gujri Ji. He called their unwavering faith and determination in the face of oppression an inspiration for all. He emphasized the importance of remembering their sacrifice and upholding their values.

The Governor stated that there is no parallel in the world to the martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh. He said, “These young princes, aged just 9 and 7, bravely resisted the brutality of the Mughal rule and stood firm on their faith with unwavering courage and determination. Their supreme sacrifice set a unique example for all of us.”

Significance of the Shaheedi Jor Mela:

The Shaheedi Jor Mela is an annual event held in December to commemorate the martyrdom of the two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Gujri Ji. They were executed by the Mughal forces in Sirhind, Punjab, in 1705 for refusing to convert to Islam.
