Out of the 1000 sports nurseries to be established by the Punjab government under the new sports policy, 260 nurseries are being established in the first phase for which applications have been invited for the recruitment of sports supervisors and coaches by March 10.
Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare said that due to efforts to create a sports culture in Punjab and build a structure for sportsmen at the village level, Chief Minister S. The sports minister said that earlier it was proposed to open 205 nurseries in the first phase, in which an advertisement was also given for regular recruitment. After this, several players and related parties approached and demanded to open more nurseries. Apart from this, there was a strong demand to include sports which were not included in the first phase. He said that appreciating the sentiments of the people, now the sports department is going to open 260 sports nurseries in the 2024-25 session itself in the first phase, for which the details will be posted on the department’s website www.pbsports.punjab.gov.in by issuing a revised advertisement. have been put
Meet Hare said that 260 coaches and 26 supervisors are being recruited for 260 sports nurseries. Releasing the sport-wise details, he said that for sports nurseries 58 for athletics, 22 each for hockey and volleyball, 20 each for wrestling and badminton, 15 each for football, boxing and basketball, 12 each for kabaddi, 10 each for archery and swimming. , 5-5 for weightlifting and judo, 4-4 for gymnastics, rowing and cycling, 3-3 for handball, wushu and cricket, 2-2 for kho kho, fencing, tennis and table tennis, 1- for kickboxing and netball. 1 coach is being recruited.
The sports minister further said that in the area where the sport is more popular and the number of players of the respective sport is more, the nursery of the same sport is being given. He said that after the success of the Games of Watan Punjab, the department has data about which sport is played more in which area.
