Punjab is ready for the launch of the first road security force of its kind in the country : Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday reviewed the launching of the Road Safety Force (Sadak Surksha Force) to check the fatality rate due to road accidents in the state on one hand and to streamline the movement of traffic on the roads of the state.

 

The Chief Minister, who held a detailed review meeting for launching the first of its kind specialized force here today, said that several precious lives are lost in road accidents daily in Punjab, which needs to be checked. He said that this is possible by regulating the traffic well on the roads of the state for which ‘Road Safety Force’ is being constituted in Punjab Police. Bhagwant Mann said that this force will be entrusted with the task of checking rash driving, streamlining vehicular movement on roads and others to check the road accidents adding that it will reduce the burden on cops deployed in police stations.

 

The Chief Minister said that in the first phase a force of 1300 cops will be recruited for this specialized force. Inspecting the vehicles to be launched for the force, he said that initially 144 vehicles will be launched out of 116 will be Isuzu vehicles that will be deployed after every 30 kilometers and 28 will be SUVs that will be equipped with speed radars. Bhagwant Mann further said that the vehicles will also have a complete medical kit for providing emergency treatment to any person in need.

 

The Chief Minister also checked the various designs of uniforms proposed for this ultra modern force to come up in the state and said that the uniform must have reflectors so that a person in need can spot these vehicles even from a distance. He said that this force will play a pivotal role in streamlining the movement of the traffic in the state. Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that this maiden initiative of the state government will be replicated in the other states of the country too.

 

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, ADGP Traffic AS Rai and others.
