Punjab Launches Sadak Surakhya Force: 144 Hi-Tech Vehicles to Safeguard 5500 Kilometres of Roads

Jalandhar, January 27: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the pioneering Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) aimed at securing 5500 kilometres of critical roads across the state to ensure the safety of commuters.

The SSF introduces a fleet of 144 ultra-modern vehicles equipped with cutting-edge technology to efficiently monitor road conditions. This initial phase includes 116 Toyota Hilux and 28 Mahindra Scorpio vehicles strategically stationed at 30-kilometre intervals along the roads. Each vehicle will be manned by a team of four police personnel, led by an officer not below the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).

Road interceptors stationed in every district will be manned by three police officers. In the first phase, 1296 newly recruited personnel, along with 432 existing police officers, will be deployed in SSF. These teams will operate round the clock in eight-hour shifts, following specialized training at the Police Training Academy in Kapurthala.

The vehicles are equipped with state-of-the-art gadgets such as speed guns, breathalyzers, e-challan machines, and AI-enabled smart mechanisms to enforce traffic regulations. Additionally, they will feature recovery vans, command and control centers with real-time CCTV cameras, and a team of road crash investigation experts, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and IT specialists to handle technical aspects.
