The New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister of Punjab, Mr. Aman Arora, recently gave a clarion call to work in the direction of new and innovative energy efficient technologies in the State to secure the future. He was speaking at the Half Day Stakeholder Validation Workshop and Launch of the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP).

Mr. Arora stressed the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels and move towards solar and wind energy. He said that India has been producing three times more carbon gases than its size, which is a big challenge for the country. He also advised people to make wise use of electricity and water to conserve the environment for future generations.

The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to increasing the number of solar pumps in the state. Apart from this, a policy is also being formulated by the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) to make productive use of the stubble.

The State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP) has been prepared by PEDA in association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). The plan aims to reduce energy consumption by 0.7345 MTOE (Million tons of oil equivalent) by 2025 and 1.8952 Mtoe by 2030.

The plan focuses on four key sectors: buildings, industries, transport, and agriculture. It includes measures such as replacing inefficient appliances in buildings, instituting BEE Star ratings and Shunya ratings for buildings, and introducing energy efficiency measures in industries and agriculture.

The SEEAP is a positive step towards reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in Punjab. It is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economy and environment.
