Punjab police arrest Akali leader Parambans Singh Romana for sharing a morphed video of a Punjabi singer criticizing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Romana was arrested on Thursday, October 26, 2023, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act, including forgery for purpose of cheating, forgery for harming reputation, and defamation.
The police said that Romana had shared the morphed video on social media with the intention of maligning the image of the Chief Minister. He is being questioned and further investigation is underway.
Romana’s arrest has been condemned by the Akali Dal, which has called it a political vendetta. However, the AAP government has defended the arrest, saying that it is necessary to take action against those who spread misinformation and try to malign the image of the government.
