In a major intelligence operation against Pharma Opioids, the Special Task Force (STF) of Punjab Police has exposed an inter-state illegal network of psychotropic substance manufacturing and supply units running from the Pharma factory at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. This information was given by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here today.
This action was taken in detail for three months about the antecedent relations of two drug smugglers namely Sukhwinder Singh alias Dhami of Kot Muhammad Khan village of Tarn Taran and Jaspreet Singh alias Jass of Govind Nagar, Amritsar, arrested by the Special Task Force, Border Range, Amritsar. The investigation has been done after. It is noteworthy that these smugglers were arrested from Beas in the month of February this year along with 4.24 lakh drug pills/capsules and drug money worth Rs 1 lakh.
During this entire operation conducted in five states, a total of 7 drug smugglers/suppliers have been arrested by the police and effective recovery has been made of 70.42 lakh drug tablets/capsules, drug money worth Rs 2.37 lakh and 725.5 kg drug Tramadol powder. These five states include Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Giving information in this regard, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that after the arrest of these two drug smugglers, police teams under the leadership of SP STF Vishaljit Singh and DSP STF Vavinder Kumar traced and arrested the main leader of this racket, Alex Paliwal, in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Succeeded and recovered 9.04 lakh drug tablets/capsules and drug money worth Rs 1.37 lakh from his possession.
He told that after the disclosure of accused Alex Paliwal, police teams, acting in Himachal Pradesh, in the presence of Drug Control Officers Sukhdeep Singh and Ramnik Singh, investigated Biogenetic Drugs Private Limited and seized records. These records revealed that the company manufactured more than 20 crore Alprazolam tablets in just eight months. Records also revealed supplies made to M/s Aster Pharma of Maharashtra. Further investigation in this regard exposed Smilex Pharma Chem Drug Industries, the second pharma manufacturing company of Baddi based Biogenetic Drug Private Limited.
The DGP said that during the operation against Smilex Pharma Chem Drug Industries, 47.32 drug capsules and 725.5 kg drug Tramadol powder – which was enough to make 1.5 crore capsules, were recovered. Records revealed that Smilax Pharma Chem Drug Industries had purchased 6500 kg of নার্ষা Tramadol powder within a year.
He said that during the same period, while investigating the transportation and distribution of drugs and investigating the interstate network of drug smuggling, four more suppliers, identified as Intezaar Salmani, Prince Salmani, Baljinder Singh and Subba Singh, were arrested. . Police teams recovered a consignment of 9.80 lakh drug tablets/capsules from a transportation vehicle near Chandigarh Railway Station. He further said that further investigation in this regard is going on and more arrests are expected.
In this regard, a case has been registered under sections 22-C, 25, 27-A and 29 of the NDPS Act at FIR No. 31 dated 20.02.2024 at Police Station STF, SAS Nagar.
