As part of the campaign to make Punjab a crime-free state on the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Police on Wednesday, after a brief encounter at Hotan Grand Vista in Baltana, Bathinda, in the murder case of a Kulcha shop owner in Bathinda. Three persons including the main shooter have been arrested.
Inspector General of Ropar Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, who is SSP. SAS Nagar, who was addressing a press conference with Dr Sandeep Garg, said that the shooter has been identified as Lovejit Singh, a resident of Bhikhi, Mansa, while his two accomplices have been identified as Paramjit. Singh and Kamaljit Singh are both residents of Mansa. The police teams have recovered two pistols of .30 bore along with live cartridges from them.
According to the information received, the owner of Kulcha shop Harjinder Singh alias Mela was shot dead by two unknown persons on Saturday when he was sitting on a chair outside his shop. In this regard, a case was already registered under Section 302 and 120B of IPC and Section 25 of Arms Act on FIR No. 184 dated 28/10/23 at Kotwali Bathinda police station.
IGP Gurpreet Bhullar said that after receiving a tip-off about the Bathinda murder accused who were hiding in a hotel in Baltana, the police teams of State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Mohali and District SAS Nagar raided a hotel in Baltana. Succeeded in nabbing the accused at Grand Vista. When the police teams surrounded the hotel, one of the accused started firing at the police party, injuring DSP Pawan Kumar, who was leading the police team.
He said that the police teams also retaliated in self-defence, during which the accused Lovejit Singh was also shot in the right leg. He said that the injured DSP Pawan Kumar and the accused Lovejeet have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
SSP Sandeep Garg said that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused are members of the Arsh Dallah gang, which also claimed responsibility for the murder of Harjinder Mela. He said that further investigation in this regard is going on.
In this regard, new FIR no. 321 dated 01/11/2023 IPC. A case has been registered at Zirakpur police station under Sections 307, 353, 186 and 34 of the Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
