Punjab Police Launches Extensive Statewide Operation to Bolster Security at Financial Institutions

In a significant move to enhance security across Punjab, the Punjab Police initiated a comprehensive statewide operation on Thursday, aimed at reviewing and strengthening the security measures at various financial institutions. This operation aligns with the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure Punjab remains a safe and secure state.

Under the direct orders of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, the Punjab Police mobilized over 500 police teams comprising more than 2,500 personnel. These teams, operating under the supervision of senior officers including SPs and DSPs, conducted thorough inspections across all 28 police districts in the state. The operation focused on a broad spectrum of financial institutions, including 2,516 banks, 389 non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), 360 gold loan providers, and 561 money exchangers.

The primary goal of this operation was to ensure the security of financial institutions, which are often targeted by anti-social elements. Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla emphasized that the operation was not just about reviewing existing security measures but also about instilling a sense of safety and security among the general public.

Police teams were instructed to verify the presence and functionality of security infrastructure, including the deployment of security guards, operational CCTV cameras, and working alarm systems. These checks were crucial in both urban and rural areas, where financial institutions can be vulnerable to criminal activities.

While the operation was comprehensive and rigorous, the Punjab Police ensured that it was conducted with minimal inconvenience to the public. Officers were directed to maintain a polite and professional demeanor during inspections. The presence of police teams also served as a deterrent to suspicious activities around these institutions. Several individuals who were found loitering near banks and financial institutions were questioned as a precautionary measure.

This operation is part of a broader initiative by the Punjab Police to transform Punjab into a crime-free state. Special DGP Arpit Shukla reiterated that such operations would continue, reflecting the ongoing commitment of the police force to safeguarding the state’s financial infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its residents.

The Punjab Police’s proactive approach in securing financial institutions is a vital step towards reducing the risk of criminal activities in the state. By conducting such extensive and well-coordinated operations, the police are not only protecting valuable assets but also reinforcing public confidence in the safety of their financial transactions.
